Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hypnosis?
When you are in hypnosis you are very relaxed, your conscious mind switches off and your subconscious mind is in a state of heightened awareness. This is when you are likely to take on positive suggestions. Everyone goes into a trance state several times every day, for example, while watching a film on TV (that’s how adverts work) or when you are driving on ‘autopilot’. When you choose to, your conscious mind can take over in a split second.

What is hypnotherapy and how does it work?
Hypnotherapy is a very powerful way of helping your mind heal itself naturally without any side effects. The therapy can be used to break habits, improve confidence levels and get rid of negative feelings. Inappropriate feelings of anger and guilt can be corrected. Hypnotherapy can also be used to restore equilibrium to the mind and body and can help with some physical problems too as many physical illnesses are brought on by the mind.  For more information click here.

How many sessions will I need?
This will vary depending on your needs, for example stop smoking will normally take just one or two sessions, but this is just dealing with a habit. With other problems we may need to look at changing old unwanted behaviours and creating new more appropriate behaviour patterns. In some cases confidence therapy may be required to gain a more positive outlook on life and improve self worth. Some people are very motivated and only need a few sessions, while others may take a bit longer. We will discuss your progress after each session and what is best for you.

How long is a hypnotherapy session?
Each session will last approximately one hour (sometimes a little longer) and you should always allow for this length of time when booking your appointments.

Will I have any exercises to do at home?
Yes you will have some homework to do! You will be given recordings to listen to during the course of your treatment and it is very important that you listen to these every single day between your appointments to reinforce the therapy and to help you to achieve your goal.

I also incorporate elements of CBT, DBT and Mindfulness based exercises into the therapy which helps you start to understand how your thoughts, moods, behaviours and reactions are all interlinked. You can see from the diagram above that small changes in one area can lead to changes in all other areas of life.

Can anyone be hypnotised?
Generally, yes, but only if you co-operate and allow yourself to be hypnotised.

How can I make an appointment?
